CHANEL THE SPRING-SUMMER 2023 READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION.
After a very cinematic show at the Grand Palais Éphémère accompanied with photographs paying tribute to the Nouvelle Vague taken by Inez & Vinoodh, the Spring-Summer 2023 Ready-to-Wear collection campaign unveils new images featuring the actress and CHANEL ambassador Kristen Stewart in the South of France.
«Kristen Stewart is the person who reminds me most of Gabrielle Chanel,» says Virginie Viard, Artistic Director of CHANEL’s Fashion collections. “She is also an actress who is very loyal to CHANEL, she has a very special relationship with the House. When I first met her in 2013, it was instant. I’ve always been fascinated by her face, her attitude… And she understands CHANEL clothing so well.»
“Kristen’s body language, whether she’s standing, sitting or walking, is really reminiscent of Gabrielle Chanel,” add Inez & Vinoodh. “She has a natural resemblance to her portraits. She embodies the allure of CHANEL perfectly.”
The black and white scenes of Parisian life, cinemas and cafés, the metro and 31 rue Cambon, give way to the colours of vineyards, orange groves and the Mediterranean Sea. A landscape in which the CHANEL vocabulary, its words, its DNA, its attitude and the secret of its allure all resonate.
Tweed and knitwear, the fundamental materials of the CHANEL allure
Synonymous with freedom of movement in womenswear, tweed is used for a lightweight jumpsuit with an orange gingham pattern, worn over a pastel-hued cashmere cardigan.
A play on proportions
The very symbol of CHANEL’s allure, the suit is revisited in new proportions, combining a short jacket with a low-waisted pencil skirt in raspberry pink tweed.
Purity of lines
The little black dress with an extremely understated cut, punctuated with the letters of CHANEL.
In black and white
CHANEL’s emblematic colour duo is magnified in a silhouette full of contrasts. Thigh-high boots in fishnet and patent leather adorned with bows offer a new variation on the two-tone shoe.
Subtle transparencies
The black chiffon cape recalls the costumes chosen from Gabrielle Chanel’s collections to dress the actress Delphine Seyrig in Alain Resnais’ Last Year at Marienbad. An echo of the House’s connection with the seventh art.
Favourite flower
The essence of CHANEL, the camellia is worn on the belt, in a white version against a black background.
Bows
Heavily present in this collection, mini or oversized, the bow features on many silhouettes, from the little black dress to accessories, from long leather gloves to shoes.
In one word: allure
Composed of contrasts, masculine and feminine, transparency and opacity, simplicity and sophistication, the CHANEL allure is interpreted by Kristen Stewart with an innate grace.
